Kakimori created these hardbound notebooks with everyday use in mind. A Smyth-sewn binding ensures each page opens perfectly flat. The pages feature a hand-drawn, light grey grid that is gentle on the eyes and doesn't stand out when scanned. After you complete the notebook, it fits on a bookshelf and becomes part of a treasured collection over time.
Each of the various notebook designs are limited edition in that they are released for a period of time and then switched out with different fabric. Some details:
Tactile, woven Banshu-ori fabric cover made with garment fabric by Shimada Textiles, as well as additional collaborations with individual artisans, many of which are limited.
The current Enshu Orimono series features Enshu orimono, a traditional Japanese woven cotton textile preserved over generations in western Shizuoka Prefecture since the Edo period.
The Bishu series features fabric woven in the Bishu region, one of the most renowned wool textile regions in the world.
Lie-flat Smyth-sewn binding; OK Fools Paper works well with fountain pens
5mm grid ruling is printed in light grey ink that is easy on the eyes
Fountain pen enthusiasts know Tomoe River paper as among the most luxurious papers on the market, famed for its strength despite the light weight, and its ability to handle even the broadest fountain pen nibs and the wettest inks. These hardcover notebooks come in either A5 size, and feature 52g white Tomoe River Paper. This paper is the Sanzen formulation (Tomoe River “S”).
Notebooks contain 368 pages. Made in Japan.
A top-bound pad of bright white blank paper from Japanese stationery maker Life Co. This pad of paper has the feel of vintage typewriter paper. Indeed, typing paper is very hard to come by, so if you’re looking for high-end paper to feed your typewriter, this may be your best bet. Typically I have a hard time finding high-quality paper that will stand up to a very wet ribbon in my Hermes Rocket typewriter, but this stuff does the trick.
Note that this paper features a lighter paper weight than other Life Products, and will not be quite as fountain pen friendly as the “Noble Note” series (but I would say still works well). If you’re looking for specialized paper to use in your typewriters that you can later mark up or sign with a fountain pen, give this a try.
Kakimori pigmented inks are lightfast and water resistant, formulated for use with dip pens and fountain pens, and are packaged in an ink bottle with a wide base for stability and ease of filling.
For best results with pigment inks, shake ink gently before using, and if using a fountain pen, be sure to use the pen regularly so the ink does not dry out in the nib. (If it dries out, the pen just needs to be flushed with water.) If you are mixing inks, only mix pigment inks with other inks of the same brand.
10 different colors are available. Made in Japan.
